Search engine optimization

Search Engine Optimization is a process to drive traffic to websites via conduits such as search engines through organic or algorithmic search results. Typically, the higher the site ranks in the search results, the more searches will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of searches such as looking for specific images, local search and industry-specific verticals.

The SEO has to consider how search algorithms work and what people search for in order to increase a site’s relevance. The functions of an SEO thus involve a site's coding, presentation, and structure, as well as fixing problems that could prevent search engine indexing programs from fully spidering a site. Examples of other focused efforts include adding specialized content to the site, making sure that the content is easily indexed by search engine robots and making the site look attractive to users. Search engines also look for sites employing techniques that may potentially be harmful to the search engine user experience.
